Oils
Slow drying paint made with pigments mixed in oil, linseed oil being most traditional. The oil dries with a hard film, and the brightness of the colors is protected. Oil paints are usually opaque and traditionally used on canvas. One of the most inviting qualities of oil paint is the fact that the color remains constant throughout the drying process. When a color is mixed, unlike acrylic, it keeps the same characteristic color that is present when on the palette. Oil paint usually has ‘thickness’ so it can be shovelled, spread, pushed, trowelled, brushed and scraped.
